December 2014

Merry Christmas

Our Industry has received a victory in the announced elimination of the requirement
to have two consecutive 1-5 am during a 34 hour restart. In addition, the requirement to log clean pre and post trip
inspections will no longer be required. The FMCSA recently
announced that it does not expect its final rule mandating ELD until September 30, 2015. Effective January 1, the
Illinois Tollway fare is going to spike 40% which is part of a
long-range plan that by 2017 tolls are expected to have risen by 60%. The FMSCA now allows Carriers and/or Drivers the ability to remove
violations dismissed or reduced by the Court. Please contact Jennifer Resendez at ext. 232 for assistance.

Reminder:
All loads grossing greater than 50,000 lbs. require a permit or a scale ticket in order to be processed. Loads without accompanying paperwork, will not be paid until provided. DOT is including permit checks in all of their investigations and carriers are losing their permit privileges since they did not comply with this requirement. Any questions, please call Linda Wilson at extension 246.

We are blessed to have you part of the Northern family. May this holiday bring you happiness, joy and peace shared with family.

Each day we have an opportunity to make a difference in someone's life. You might be the smile and embrace that makes a difference. May you be that light in someone's life in 2015.

It is important to take the time to remember the loved ones that are no longer with us. For some of you this is the first Christmas without someone that meant so much. If there is any comfort we can provide please do not hesitate to ask anyone in the NST family; we are here for you.

Word from Leadership

We are excited for what 2015 has in store for our drivers and the company. We will remain focused on being the "Best of the Best" and doing what it takes to get there. This is your company and you are the one that makes a difference each day; let us know how we can help.

Our Vision is to grow 50% over the next 5 years. This cannot happen without you. What you do each day wears Northern on your sleeve.

We continue to look to national and local contracts to provide the most value and lowest cost to our drivers. Recently we secured contracts with both Bridgestone, Goodyear and
Michelin Tire. In addition, we have negotiated national pricing contacts with Pilot and Love's that provide pricing discounts to you the driver. The discount is up to $.10/gallon.

Job Well Done
Since the implementation of the Lane Inspections at the end of September, we have had 7 Clean Roadside Inspections! Clean Roadsides are the key to our progress; this takes maintaining your equipment each day. We want to give a special thanks those that have recently passed inspection; those drivers include: Carlos Cornejo (Lake Station), Richard Sample (Canton), Denny Reckner (Toledo), and Scott Tubbs (Toledo). Good work!
Annual Business Meeting

Our annual business meetings are just around the corner. We are modifying the agenda for future meetings to focus on safety and other key items. The January meeting will also
